Perth Racing today invited regionally trained horses and their connections to follow the Road to Ascot for the $100,000 final of the inaugural Regional Championships, scheduled for Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes Day on the second Saturday of The TABtouch Masters on 26 November.
All Western Australia-trained horses that have not won a prime metropolitan-grade race will be eligible to part in the Regional Championships, the final of which will take place immediately before the Group One Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes over the same Ascot trip of 1,200 metres.
Four tracks will stage $30,000 Regional Championships heats that will feed horses into the $100,000 Ascot final.
Horses will only be able to compete in the heat associated with the region in which they are trained. The first four finishers in each of the four heats will qualify for the final automatically.
- Saturday 12 November | Mid West, Gascoyne, Pilbara and Kimberley heat | Geraldton
- Sunday 13 November | Great Southern and Goldfields-Esperance heat| Mt Barker
- Thursday 17 November | Wheatbelt and Metropolitan heat | Northam
- Sunday 20 November | South West and Peel heat| Bunbury
- Saturday 26 November | Final | Ascot
“Day two of The TABtouch Masters at Ascot will be a celebration of country life,” said Neil Pinner, Chairman of Perth Racing. “On the track there will be the Regional Championships final, while off the track there will be the conclusion of the WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field competition.
“Ascot will be awash with the finest horses and haute couture from all over WA. Perth Racing wants to see as many country people at Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes Day as possible so it will grant free general admission to every person who is a member of a regional WA thoroughbred racing club.
“Perth Racing is committed to creating iconic events that bring people together to share unique racing and non-racing social experiences. I am confident that the Regional Championships, as part of The TABtouch Masters at Ascot, will be a first-up success and deliver seriously good times.”
