Gascoyne Gymnastics Club awarded $4000 Community TAB Sports Grant
13 November, 2018
Community TAB of Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) has awarded Gascoyne Gymnastics Club a $4000 sports grant.
Gascoyne Gymnastics Club was one of two groups to receive a grant this month, selected from over 200 sporting clubs that applied from around WA.
Gascoyne Gymnastics Club President Beth Hudson said the club was incredibly grateful to have this financial support from the Community TAB Sports Grant.
“We are overwhelmed that we have been successful in being awarded the grant and the purchase of new equipment with the grant monies will benefit our club and all its members,” Ms Hudson said.
“It is a real boost for us as Gascoyne Gymnastics Club is a not-for-profit sporting club that has been running for over 10 years.
“With the help of the Community TAB Sports Grant we will now be able to offer an extended gymnastics program in FreeG.
“FreeG fuses traditional gymnastics and acrobatic tricks, with kicks and leaps made famous through martial arts and brought to worldwide attention by festival performances and stunt actors.
Ms Hudson added that it is great for fitness and develops a heightened sense of spatial awareness that can be put to good use in a variety of other sports.
“Our current ‘Boys Only’ class will able to be extended to hopefully include extra classes for new members and specialist training for our coaches,” she said.
“Gascoyne Gymnastics Club gives children and adults the opportunity to participate in a fundamental movement sport that develops all skills essential to any sport.
“We cater from 12 months old to adults, and our focus is on fitness, fun and friendship.
“Living in a remote rural location, it is fantastic that children growing up in the community can access gymnastics as an option to the more traditional sports available.”
RWWA CEO Richard Burt said the organisation recognises the importance of grass roots sport throughout WA.
“We understand that it takes time and resources to keep a club running within the community, so we are pleased to be giving the opportunity to help relieve this burden on clubs,” Mr Burt said.
“RWWA has been supporting the WA sport and recreation industry for many years through providing millions of dollars over 10 years to the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) and more recently through Community TAB sponsoring the WA Football League and WA Integrated Football Program.”
Community TAB will provide at least one grant each month to a sporting club to further their contribution to the sport and recreation industry in WA. Once a club applies for a grant, the application will stay within the pool until the grant is awarded.
Sporting clubs can apply for a grant at communitytab.com.au. Terms and Conditions apply.
