Ocean’s Fifteen To Reward Patient Supporters
Michael Gangemi hopes the stables patient approach with Ocean’s Fifteen will be rewarded at Belmont this afternoon.
After three winning trials, the Redoute’s Choice four-year-old makes his debut in the Tabtouch-Better Your Bet Maiden (1200m).
“He is a lovely horse and we’ve just had to take our time with him,” Gangemi told Tabradio.
“Mentally and physically he wasn’t really there.
“We’ve paced ourselves and taken our time with him.
“We won’t push our horses until we are really happy with him.
“And today I can confirm we are happy to be at the races.
“Under race conditions we can see what we have got.
“Fingers crossed he can live up to the hype.”
With Tabtouch, Ocean’s Fifteen is the $2.60 second favourite behind Warbler ($2.20).
In a field of six runners he has drawn barrier four. Peter Knuckey takes the mount.
Gangemi also fancies former New Zealand mare McEdith to continue her winning ways in the Iron Jack Handicap (1000m).
After a luckless Perth debut when 6th, McEdith rebounded with a strong winning performance at Northam on September 5.
“After her first-up run we were licking our wounds a little bit,” Gangemi said.
“We thought she was going to be a great each way chance.
“She was climbing over their heels the whole way down the straight.
“She never really got out of second gear.”
McEdith, to jump from barrier seven, is rated a $5.50 chance. Jordan Turner retains the ride.
