Talented pacer Jack Mac has enhanced his credentials for the Golden Nugget next month, taking out the Garrards Horse And Hound 4YO Classic (2185m) at Pinjarra yesterday.
The son of Mach Three had only been beaten at one of his 15 previous starts in Australia, but was facing his toughest test to date in the $25,000 event, with well credentialed runners Bechers Brook and Golden State in the race.
Jack Mac was forced to settle in the breeze throughout, with Sweet N Fast setting the pace, while Bechers Brook settled on the back of the leader.
The Barry Howlett-trained pacer took the lead coming into the home straight and quickly opened up a substantial lead.
Bechers Brook fought on gamely to run second, while Bright Diamond was third.
The $30,000 Don Randall Memorial Cup (2631m) saw Galactic Star enhance his credentials for the Inter Dominion in Melbourne next month, where he scored a narrow win over stablemate Rock Diamonds.
Reinsman Ryan Warwick sent the six-year-old to the front going out of the home straight the first time, while Rock Diamonds eventually found the breeze.
Rock Diamonds made a late surge at his stablemate, but fell short by a half-neck, with Cut For An Ace back in third.
