Lochinvar Art “95 per cent” chance for Pacing Cups
Smart pacer Lochinvar Art is set to add significant star power to this year’s Fremantle and WA Pacing Cups, with trainer David Moran determined to get his charge to Perth.
The reigning Chariots Of Fire winner has scored at two of his three starts this campaign as he builds towards a likely Victoria Cup start on October 10 prior to the WA features.
Moran said he had his heart set on getting the star four-year-old to Perth but had to work through how to get the horse and himself over the Nullarbor.
“It just depends on the way everything is at the moment, it’s a bit tricky,” he said.
“I’d imagine the horse could get there and I don’t know about me but by then things might have lifted a little bit.
“We just have to sit down and work out flights and the other thing is the cost of them.
“I’m 95 per cent confident that we will go and I’m 100 per cent confident that I want to go.”
Moran said there was a strong possibility he would send the son of Modern Art to be looked after by a Perth trainer if he couldn’t get across.
“I’m good friends with Mouse (Michael Brennan) and also good friends with Bondy (Greg Bond),” he said.
“So it would be either of those two or I do know David Thompson.
“I’d preferably want to be there a three weeks before and that way we could possibly give him a run the week before the Fremantle Cup.”
The Fremantle Cup is set to be held on November 20 and the WA Pacing Cup a fortnight later on December 4, rather than the traditional January timeslot.
Both Cups, along with the Group 1 Mares Classic, will be held on each of the Friday evening’s prior to the three days of the TABtouch Masters series at Ascot.

Meanwhile, Wildwest, pictured above, will have his second start this campaign in Friday night’s TABtouch-York Cup (2130m) at Gloucester Park.
The Gary Hall Snr-trained four-year-old made an outstanding return to the track on August 14 in a Standing Start event and will get a terrific opportunity to make it back-to-back wins from barrier one in the Free-For-All feature.
Ideal Liner and Fake News, drawn in barrier three and five respectively, round out Hall Snr’s three-pronged attack on the race.
As Happy As Larry makes his return to the track in the $30,000 event from barrier six, while last start winner Galactic Star will have to overcome barrier 12.
