In-form jockey Kerrin McEvoy will turn to star West Australian sprinter Black Heart Bart in an attempt to win the All Aged Stakes (1400m), the final Group 1 of the Sydney Autumn Carnival, for the first time.
Just two years ago, Black Heart Bart was lining up in the WA Derby, fast forward to 2016, he’s on the fourth line of betting for one of Sydney’s premier sprint races.
Black Heart Bart produced a scintillating first-up performance in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington in March, where he finished second to the Quarterback, before he won the Group 3 Victoria Handicap on Easter Saturday.
McEvoy, fresh from winning the Sydney Cup aboard Gallante on Saturday, said he was looking forward to jumping on the former Vaughn Sigley-trained gelding, who is now in the care of Darren Weir.
“He was a dominant winner last start at Caulfield,” McEvoy said on TABRadio’s The Big Breakfast.
“He’s building up a very nice record that’s for sure.
“It’s obviously a nice field in the All Aged with Press Statement, and you have English there as well but Darren Weir can hold his own anywhere he puts his horses, so I’m looking forward to getting on him on Saturday.”
Some of Black Heart Bart’s other rivals on Saturday include Brisbane-bound Malaguerra, Doncaster Mile winner Kermadec and Our Boy Malachi.
Press Statement was installed a $3.30 on opening TABTouch markets, with Black Heart Bart at $6.
