Trainer Dan Morton is hopeful consistent sprinter Real Danger can score more valuable blacktype when she lines up in this Saturday’s Listed Miss Andretti Stakes (1100m) at Ascot.
Real Danger settled close to a solid tempo and was narrowly beaten by Ghost Who Walks in the Summer Scorcher (1000m).
The mare heads into Saturday’s $125,000 feature second-up, where she possesses an imposing record of three wins from four starts.
Morton said he was pleased with the mare early in her campaign.
“She was good first-up after a fair layoff,” Morton told The Races WA.
“She was all but the winner on that occasion and it’s a pretty similar field this week.
“She will strip fitter for that run.”
William Pike rode Real Danger in the Summer Scorcher but will team up with short-price favourite Wild Belle this week.
Steven Parnham replaces Pike aboard Real Danger.
Morton said while Wild Belle would be hard to beat, Real Danger could still make her presence felt.
“She’s a beautiful little mare,” he said.
“It’s been a pretty savy buy by Lynward Park to put in its broodmare band.
“She’s very tough and I wouldn’t put any race like this beyond her.”
Wild Belle was heavily supported from $2.60 into $1.95 with TABtouch when markets opened this afternoon, while Real Danger was on the second line of betting at $5.
Morton said he would be open to securing a slot for Real Danger in the Bluff Knoll (1099m) at Albany in March, a race which he’s already aiming Saloon Bar at.
