My Ultimate Joe Breaks Lengthy Drought
It may have been almost two years between wins for Our Ultimate Joe, but the win wasn’t unexpected on Friday night when the six-year-old led all the way from barrier two at Narrogin in the fourth on the card at $5 odds.
Trained by Graeme Waters and driven by Hayden Hancock, My Ultimate Joe has been in consistent form of late and a win was just around the corner, with Friday nights race looking like it could be the one. Once he bounced to the front it was all over, going on to win comfortably in 1:59:5 over the 1823m sprint trip, in similar fashion to his last win in December 2019 after finding the lead early at Albany.
After 15 attempts at cracking her maiden win, Captains Cote claimed victory in the first on the card at start 16 after leading all the way for Collie trainer Errol Ashcroft. Driven by Kyle Symington, the $11 shot managed to hang on for the win, winning by a neck in 2:01:0 over the 1823m.
Sleek And Sweet made it two wins from just 10 starts in WA after her win at Narrogin on Friday night after settling behind the leader throughout for Tony Allington and Donald Harper. Going on to win by a margin of 9.6m over the 1823m journey, Harper peeled off the pegs just before the bend, going three wide to win untouched in race three.
The ever-consistent Star In Art brought up her eighth career win in race three, giving Donald Harper a race to race double on the night. Trained by Peter Anderson and owned by Allwood Stud Farm the four-year-old double Westbred mare has made it three wins in the last eight starts with Star In Art coming from behind to win by 16.5m in 2:01:5.
After winning the Daintys Daughter at Pinjarra earlier this year in July, Captains Beachbabe appreciated the drop back in class, taking out the fifth on the card over the 2242m for Nathan Turvey and Madeliene Young. In a mile rate of 2:03:8, the three-year-old started from barrier seven and worked her way around the field three wide with two laps to go, to face the breeze for the remainder to win by 1.3m.
Bettor Be Artful broke through for his maiden win at start 30 giving Miller his first win of the night, and the first leg of his driving double on the card. Trained by Simone Strachan, the three-year-old found himself in the breeze after a galloper at the front of the field, and that’s where he stayed, going on to win by a half neck in 2:01:4 over the 1823m.
Mitchell Miller rounded out the program with a race-to-race double when he piloted The Party Boy to victory in the last for trainer Lang Inwood. After leading the one out line, the $6.50 shot went on to win with ease, claiming race seven over the 2662m by 8m in 2:04:9.
