No Danger For Morton’s Real Fast Mare
Real Danger’s dream campaign under trainer Dan Morton hit another high point when she claimed the second-leg of a Listed double with ease at Bunbury on Saturday.
After winning last month’s Scenic Blast Stakes (1200m), Real Danger was untroubled to go back-to-back in the Cyril Flower Stakes (1200m).
Starting a $2.70 favourite, Real Danger was sent straight to the front by jockey Chris Parnham and shot clear in the home stretch to put the result beyond doubt.
Real Danger bolted in by two lengths, comfortably accounting for second favourite My Bella Mae and Mood Swings who held on after shadowing the leader.
Praising his mares versatility, Morton, who won the Cyril Flowers Stakes for the second time, said it was his desire to see Real Danger lead and control the race.
“We were sort of keen to take bad luck out of the equation, given that the field had come away a little bit,” Morton said.
“She is very versatile and a very race fit mare now and we were pretty keen to put them to the sword.
“She’s a tractable mare and very easy to train and very fast.
“It’s lucky that she’s fallen into our laps as she is a welcome addition to us.”
Real Danger, with trainers Grant and Alana Williams and Adam Durrant previously, improved her record to 11 wins and more than half a million dollars in prizemoney.
The daughter of I Am Invincible transferred to Morton’s team seven months ago and has only missed the money and finished outside the first three once in eight starts.
Morton said upcoming black-type events in the Pinjarra Classic and Bunbury Stakes is looking the preferred option than the inaugural Bluff Knoll at Albany on March 10.
“There is a lot of options, but I haven’t had a talk to Lynward Park (owners) yet to see which way we want to go,” Morton said.
“But, I imagine the black-type that is on offer is probably attractive to her.”
The Cyril Flower Stakes, transferred from Ascot to Bunbury to alleviate Perth’s heatwave, lost some sheen following the scratching of Live To Tell, Wild Belle, Mojo Rhythm and Aztec Ruler.
Morton rode Dark Beau, trained by his father, Len, to win the 1989 Cyril Flower Stakes.
Parnham also successfully combined with his dad, trainer, Neville, in the Cyril Flower Stakes, following Platoon’s win (2021).
The Listed Pinjarra Classic is run on February 25 and the Listed Bunbury Stakes on March 9.
