Ocean Ridge Makes Winning Return To Racing
Smart four-year-old Ocean Ridge has pleased reinsman Ryan Warwick on his return to racing in the Rob and Anne Gartrell Pace (2692m) at Pinjarra yesterday.
The gelding was having his first start since a win at the same venue in May last year and it was just his second start since the 2018 WA Derby.
Ocean Ridge produced a dazzling burst of speed from the 800m mark of yesterday’s race and quickly opened up a big lead on his rivals, before he scored a 25m win.
Warwick said Ocean Ridge was ahead of schedule and was pleased to see him back performing well.
“He’s a high quality horse,” Warwick told TABradio.
“He was probably a fortnight early to get to the races yesterday.
“He did more than we expected him to.
“I thought he probably should’ve won the Derby with the run he had.
“It’s exciting looking forward with him.”
Ocean Ridge missed all of the four-year-old feature races over the summer period, where stablemate Ana Malak was the star performer.
Warwick said Ocean Ridge, at his best, would likely have the measure of Golden Nugget winner Ana Malak.
“There wouldn’t be a lot between them,” he said.
“I’d probably have Mighty Conqueror and Ocean Ridge at the top.
“It’d be a very close second for Ana Malak and Fizzing as well.”
