Perth On Radar For Mystery Shot-Trap For Fools To Kalgoorlie
Perth’s Ascot carnival looms large on the radar for unbeaten gelding Mystery Shot.
The Lindsey Smith-trained four-year-old has made a blistering start to his career, winning five races since his debut at Warrnambool last December.
Bred in Australia, but sold as a yearling in New Zealand, the progressive son of Shooting To Win is raced by Spicer Thoroughbreds.
Having a break after he posted a fighting win at Caulfield in July, connections have so far resisted significant offers from Hong Kong for Mystery Shot.
“I think he would be an ideal horse for Perth,” Smith told The Races WA.
“If he could fly over the decision would be a lot easier.
“A float trip could make it a bit trickier.
“The Northerly Stakes and the Peters Stakes look good races for him.
“A decision will be made next week after discussion with the owners.”
Meanwhile Smith said Trap For Fools is closing in on a return to racing after a pleasing hit out at Lark Hill on Monday.
Having his second trial since the Diggers Cup (1800m) in April, the Group 1 winner led all the way to win his heat by 2 ½ lengths.
“He will either come back to Melbourne or go to the Coolgardie Cup,” Smith said.
“He’s a horse that needs to be rock-hard fit.
“I’m confident of getting another good race out of him.”
Smith said Queen Takes Kings, a winner of three races from seven starts, will go to the paddock after running sixth to Bonneville Black at Belmont on Saturday.
“I’m not sure she handled the track,” Smith said.
“She’ll have a rest and go through the grades when she comes back.
“The Albany Cup will look a nice race for her.”
