Pinjarra Harness Racing and Community TAB to host Team Teal Fundraiser
Pinjarra Harness Racing Club and Community TAB have joined forces to raise funds for Team Teal at the annual Pinjarra Pacing Cup on Monday 2 March, benefitting ovarian cancer awareness and research.
The Team Teal campaign is a partnership between WomenCan and the Harness Racing industry in Australia and New Zealand, running annually during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Pinjarra Harness Racing Club Manager Sian Hughes said she was thrilled be involved with the campaign.
“We see this fundraiser as a wonderful opportunity to contribute financially to lifesaving research into ovarian cancer, a condition affecting many women and their families across WA”, Ms Hughes said.
“Community TAB is a great initiative by Racing and Wagering Western Australia, one that we have been involved with over the past five years, fundraising for various charities close to our hearts on Cup Day.”
As part of the campaign, reinswomen across Australia and New Zealand wear teal pants from 1 February to 15 March, with sponsors donating each time reinswomen win a race.
Community TAB is the sponsor for the WA campaign, donating $200 each time a race is won by a Team Teal rider, as well as matching funds raised on Cup Day up to $2,000.
RWWA Chairman Jeff Ovens said the positive effects of the Community TAB program have been extensive for regional WA, with 49 of WA’s race clubs based in regional communities.
“RWWA recognises that race clubs across WA play an important role in their community, contributing both economically and socially, with partnerships like these an example of the strong connection race clubs have within the communities in which they operate,” Mr Owens said.
“Community TAB is proud to play our part in giving back to the community, and our donation to Team Teal is just one of more than 50 community organisations that will be supported as part of the program.”
The Community TAB dollar matching program has been in effect from early 2015, and has since raised over $600,000 for not-for-profit organisations around WA through partnerships with local race clubs.
The Pinjarra Pacing Cup is Pinjarra Harness Racing Clubs premier race day including 10 races with the $50,000 Rockingham RAM Pinjarra Pacing Cup, free entertainment for children and live music.
Fundraising on the day will take place through donation tins, fundraising competitions to be drawn on the day. Pinjarra Harness Racing Club will also donate $200 for every race won by a female driver.
