Pinjarra Race Club and Community TAB to fundraise for local Football and Netball Club
Pinjarra Race Club and Community TAB have joined forces to raise funds for the Pinjarra Football and Netball Club at the annual Pinjarra Cup on Sunday 11 April.
Community TAB will be matching funds raised on the day for the Football and Netball Club up to $5,000.
Pinjarra Race Club Chief Executive Officer Michael Lodding said it is a great initiative for race clubs to engage local groups and reiterate the fact that racing has an essential role to play in country communities.
“The sporting club is one the oldest and successful clubs in the Peel Districts and has always been a strong advocate of the Pinjarra Race club, actively promoting attendance and engaging directly with the community by conducting various fundraising activities,” Michael said.
“First run in 1891, Pinjarra Cup Day, is one of the Peel District’s premier social events with a $6,000 Diamond usually on offer to the Ladies Fashions on the Field winner a key attraction, as well as the race itself, run over 2300m, attracts some of the best thoroughbred “stayers” currently racing in WA.”
“Fundraising will take the form of raffle tickets and gold coin donations on the day and all funds raised will help upgrading and replacing equipment and facilities for the club allowing them to better engage and attract the wider community to get involved with sport at a grass roots level.”
RWWA Chair Jeff Ovens said the positive effects of the Community TAB program have been extensive for regional WA, with 48 of WA’s race clubs based in regional communities.
“RWWA recognises that race clubs across WA play an important role in their community, contributing both economically and socially, with partnerships like these an example of the strong connection race clubs have within the communities in which they operate,” Jeff said.
“Community TAB is proud to play our part in giving back to the community, and our donation to Pinjarra Football and Netball Club is just one of many community organisations that will be supported as part of the program.”
The Community TAB dollar matching program has been in effect from early 2015 and has since raised over $700,000 for not-for-profit organisations around WA through partnerships with local race clubs.
