Price family’s generous gesture acknowledged for supporting South West trainers
When the Bunbury Racecourse was under redevelopment, Ross and Tammy Price generously opened their property’s gates to South West trainers.
The act of kindness saved trainers who had previously relied on the Bunbury track many hours of travel, meaning they were able to utilise the Price’s Capel base instead of driving out of the region.
“We were able to provide a place for Bunbury trainers to train their horses and get through that difficult time,” Ross said.
Trainers and trackwork riders have returned to the premier South West facility, with racing there set to resume there in October.
“I’ve been training in Bunbury since the early 1970s and it’s great to see the Bunbury Racecourse now,” Ross said.
“It is such a huge benefit for not just South West trainers, but the whole industry in WA.”
The Price family’s selflessness has been well-recognised by industry participants, particularly South West trainers, over the past two years and on Saturday night it earnt them the Spirit of Racing WA award.
Ross and Tammy were announced co-winners of the inaugural gong, presented by Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA), alongside well-known horsewoman Julie Mitchell.
Speaking at the event, RWWA Chief Executive Officer Ian Edwards said the Prices embodied the values embraced by the Spirit of Racing WA award.
“Their contribution to the WA racing community extends far beyond winning races,” he said.
“Ross and Tammy have inspired many through their consistent support over their many years involved in racing – congratulations once more.”
