Ladies travelled from all over WA to enter Fashions on the Field, for their chance to score a spot in the Final.
Hayley Selleck was the lucky winner of the Goldfields Regional Heat and also won Best of the Locals, followed by Asha Barrett in second place and Sharni Foulknes taking out Best Millinery.
Ms Selleck will now go on to compete in the WA Fashions on the Field Final to be held at Perth Racing on Saturday, 30 November.
WA Fashions on the Field caught up with Ms Selleck to talk about country racing and racing fashion, as well as the upcoming final, here is what she had to say:
1. What do you love about country racing?
Country racing really brings communities together, it’s the one place that you’re guaranteed to see locals, visitors, families and friends, all dressed up and having the time of their lives. The added bonus of backing a winner makes it even better!
2. How long have you been going to the races for and what are some of your favourite memories?
I started attending the local Kalgoorlie Race Round as a teenager and have also attended ever since. It’s such a huge part of the Kalgoorlie social scene that it’s the place to be every year!
My favorite memories would have to be incorporating my love of the races, fashion and seeing our beautiful state by attending a few country races – so far, we’ve visited from Leonora, Albany, Esperance and even Broome! My favorite races memory was sitting in beautiful Broome and winning a generous trifecta (that was of course spent on a pearl the very next day).
3. Why do you enter Fashions on the Field?
As a mother of three, I don’t often get a chance to not only dress up, but to express myself sartorially and FOTF is the perfect opportunity to do this and to be a little ‘extra”.
I absolutely adore Millinery, the first time I entered FOTF was because I brought the most amazing headpiece on a whim, I then had to buy a dress to match and style it around it, going to all that trouble inspired me to get on stage. You also get to meet the greatest bunch of girls that love fashion as much as you do. Winning is just the icing on the cake, on a fabulous day out!
4. Describe your style.
I love vintage shapes such a full skirt or an impeccably cut wiggle dress. I love to wear fabrics that have beautiful patterns and I love to experiment by wearing many colours. I’m drawn to things such as different textures and embellishments and all those little things that make an outfit perfect and complete.
5. What tips do you have for people entering Fashions on the Field?
My biggest tip would be to love your outfit and believe in what you’re wearing, while taking seasonal traditions and competition guidelines into consideration. I also really believe the more times you get on the stage, the more comfortable and confident you’ll become.
6. What are some of your favourite things about the Goldfields region?
The Goldfields region is such a special place to call home. We have such a beautiful close-knit community, full of people that are always willing to go the extra mile for a mate. I love that there are always community events to attend from markets, art exhibitions, fundraisers and so much more – I love that in the Goldfields, there is always something to do! We’re so much more than just the super-pit!
7. What does it mean to you to be going to ascot to compete in the final?
It’s the chance of a lifetime to get to experience the final weekend in Perth and I’m so grateful to WA Fashions on the Field for giving me the opportunity. I can not wait to represent the Goldfields region and meet all the other finalists on Perth.
