Racing WA launches major partnership with Solaris Cancer Care
An exciting new partnership between the Racing WA Community Fund and Solaris Cancer Care promises vital support for cancer patients and their families throughout WA.
The partnership, which officially launched at the Bunbury Turf Club Open Day on 10 December 2023, will help Solaris Cancer Care reach regional families affected by cancer and raise awareness of support services available.
Racing and Wagering Wester Australia CEO Ian Edwards said the partnership went beyond funding, with the Solaris team eager to collaborate with the Racing WA Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) program by welcoming greyhounds to their centres to provide companionship for people going through cancer treatment.
“Our partnership with Solaris Cancer Care demonstrates our commitment to wellbeing in communities connected to racing. We’re proud to contribute to a cause as significant as supporting families affected by cancer,” Ian said.
Solaris Cancer Care CEO Tony Hume added his endorsement to the joint venture which will support Solaris Cancer Care services across the State.
“At Solaris, we support patients and their families from diagnosis through the entirety of their treatment, offering them and their families counselling, workshops as well as holistic treatments, this partnership with Racing WA allows us to reach more people and raise awareness,” Tony said.
“We look forward to the positive impact we can create together,”
The Bunbury open day highlights the vital role of racing in the social and economic landscape of the region.
Racing in the South West generates more than $90.5 million a year to the West Australian economy. Almost 3000 people are involved in racing across the region and the industry supports close to 700 jobs.
“The Bunbury open day is a celebration of the community spirit fostered by the racing industry in this region,” Ian said.
In addition to the major Solaris Cancer Care Partnership, the Racing WA Community Fund will award grants of up to $5000 per successful applicant via two annual grant rounds, to provide financial support to projects that promote connection, enhance wellbeing and advance environmental sustainability in areas associated with a thoroughbred, harness or greyhound race club.
