Red Ora is poised to record his second win in the Listed Scenic Blast Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday afternoon, according to trainer Steve Wolfe.
The gelding, having his second start for the Wolfe stable on Saturday, won the Mungrup Stud Sprint at Mount Barker on January 21, and Wolfe said he expected a similar result second-up.
“He came to me in good order, he was racing very well when Danny (Morton) had him,” Wolfe told TABradio’s The Sports Daily.
“He got through the Mungrup, that was only a dash up the straight for him.
“I think it will take a good horse to beat him.”
Red Ora defeated the Paul Hunter-trained Dream Lifter in the Mungrup Stud Sprint, who is also engaged in the $100,000 event on Saturday.
Hunter said he was also happy with how Dream Lifter had come through the run at Mount Barker.
“I think he is good order, his work has been very good and it was a really nice bit of work he did here on Tuesday,” Hunter said.
“I thought the run was good at Mount Barker on a sticky sort of track.”
The Scenic Blast Stakes also features Caipirinha, a last start winner of the Miss Andretti Stakes, and Battle Hero, a last start winner of the Summer Scorcher.
Patrick Carbery replaces the suspended Mitchell Pateman aboard Dream Lifter in the Scenic Blast Stakes, the first time he will partner the eight-year-old
Dream Lifter meets Red Ora 2kg better on Saturday than what he did at Mount Barker, but Hunter said his stable star would need to be at his best if he is to record his second Listed race win.
“It’s a nice field,” he said.
“I don’t think we can give Red Ora three kilos and beat him because he is a great horse.”
Caipirinha, currently a $3.30 TABtouch favourite, has taken benefit from the three week break between runs, according to trainer Simon Miller.
“You wouldn’t know she’s had eight runs,” Miller told The Sports Daily.
“She’s bright…she hasn’t turned off.
“She will go close to winning again.”
The Scenic Blast Stakes jumps at 4pm on Saturday.
