Captured Delight claimed Saturday nights Grafton Electrics Group 3 Northam Pacing Cup for trainer Nathan Turvey at just her second start for the stable. Joining Turvey’s stable only weeks earlier, the seven-year-old daughter of top sire Bettors Delight USA came off a last start second in town in a standing start, and Nathan Turvey was happy with how the mare was tracking leading up to Saturday’s race.
“Well, she had an ideal run the week before as she was first up and sat behind the leader, so I think it was a nice steppingstone to start off her preparation,”
“She seemed to have come on a bit from the run, but I wasn’t too confident as being a standing start, you’re not quite sure how it will pan out,”
“Once Emily got her to the front I was confident.” Nathan Turvey said.
Starting off the front-line handicap over the 2560m journey, reinswoman Emily Suvaljko stepped the mare perfectly, with Captured Delight managing to find the front early and lead throughout, clocking a mile rate of 2:00:1 and a winning margin of 8.1m.
With just over two years off due to injury to her suspensory, she resumed racing in October 2021 and after a first up effort second placing for then trainer, Giles Inwood before returning to the winner’s circle at start three this time in. After making it two in a row in November, Captured Delight has now had nine runs this prep for four wins and three placings.
Captured Delight will be heading for the $30,000 Mares race at Gloucester Park on February 18.
