WA keeps up the pace in the battle against breast cancer
Pacing for Pink has successfully concluded for another year, leaving a trail of pink-panted heroes.
Nineteen talented harness drivers from Western Australia proudly wore pink pants in support of the McGrath Foundation for the month of May, raising both funds and awareness for their cause.
The collective efforts of the harness community and driver sponsorships resulted in more than $7000 donated to the Foundation and their mission to provide support to individuals experiencing breast cancer in communities across Australia.
Additionally, the ownership group Shehadi generously donated ten per cent of their winnings for the month, bolstering the fundraising efforts by almost $800.
While the nation-wide results are yet to be announced, Pacing for Pink is on track to match the 2022 fundraising record of $140,500.
Top WA drivers Gary Hall Jnr and Deni Roberts flew the flag proudly with 26 and 22 wins respectively, amongst the highest win tallies in Australia.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia Chief Racing Officer David Hunter congratulated WA participants on their dedication to the cause.
“Western Australian harness drivers are among the best in the country and their dedication to the sport both on and off the track shines through during campaigns like Pacing for Pink,” David said.
I congratulate all drivers, particularly Gary Hall Jnr and Deni Roberts, on their efforts this year.”
The national campaign aims to promote breast cancer support and raise enough money each year to fund one full time McGrath Breast Care Nurse.
Moreover, Pacing for Pink serves as a platform to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer prevention, emphasising the importance of regular screenings, self-examinations, and healthy lifestyle choices.
In 2023, WA driver sponsors included The Trots WA, Retravision, Glen Mortimer, Russell Betts and many more.
