WA Racing Update – COVID-19
As previously announced the easing of restrictions will see the return of racing to pre-lockdown conditions, with a small number of measures to remain in place until 12.01am Saturday, May 8.
The below is to provide further clarification on mask requirements at WA racetracks:
Indoor Areas:
- Masks are mandatory for any indoor venues on-course, including jockeys, drivers and stewards rooms, kennels, function rooms or restaurants, grandstands, etc. Anyone who has been in the Perth or Peel regions since April 17, must also comply with this requirement when travelling to racetracks outside of the Perth or Peel region.
Outdoor Areas:
- Masks are not required outside except where physical distancing is not possible. Therefore, to provide further clarification on this and to ensure compliance with WA Government conditions, RWWA has identified the following outside areas where masks will be required to be worn at all WA racetracks (including those outside the Perth/Peel region):
- Greyhound Racetracks:
- Kennelling areas
- Parade areas
- During the boxing of greyhounds
- Catching pens
- Equine Racetracks:
- Mounting yards/parade rings
- Horse stalls
*Please note as per previous practice jockeys and drivers can remove their masks during a race.
Outside of these areas, physical distancing must be maintained, including during any presentations. If this is unable to be achieved, a mask must be worn. Please note, race clubs are responsible for managing their own venues and may have additional outside areas where they have determined that individuals must wear masks. Industry participants must comply with any requirements set out by race clubs.
