WA racing update – COVID-19
The WA Government, based on health advice, announced that public health and social measures will be eased to modified Level 1 from 12.01am Thursday, 31 March 2022.
Please see the below public health and social measures relevant to the WA racing community:
Limits and restrictions at racecourses:
From 12.01am Thursday 31 March 2022:
- The number of patrons present in a single undivided space (that may be indoors, outdoors or both) is limited to 500. The 500-patron cap applies alongside the two square metre rule.
- The cap of 500 refers to patrons only and does not include staff.
- Where there are multiple spaces within a racecourse and each is sufficiently separated, 500 patrons can be accommodated within each indoor or outdoor divided space, providing this fits within the two square metre rule. For example, a race club with separate enclosed spaces (such as restaurants, function rooms and outdoor bars), can host up to 500 patrons in each space.
- To be considered a sufficiently separated space there must be a wall or other structure made of material that is impervious to air flow, anchored to the ground, from ground to ceiling or roof or at least two metres high.
From 12.01am Thursday 14 April 2022:
- The 500-capacity limit will be removed, with the two square metre rule to remain in place.
Please note race clubs are solely responsible for determining the level of service provided at their venue for patrons and owners at each race meeting.
Access to mounting yard and raceday stalls/kennels
- Owners will be permitted to return to these areas from Thursday, 31 March 2022 at most racecourses. However, at venues such as Ascot on Saturdays where there are more than 500 people attending the racecourse, the public health directions require patrons to stay in their divided spaces only and, regrettably, access to the mounting yard and raceday stalls cannot be provided.
- Masks must be worn at all times in the mounting yard.
Proof of vaccination:
- All persons aged 16 years and over attending a race meeting must provide proof of being double dose vaccinated against COVID-19. Information on how to show proof of vaccination is available here.
- All persons (including licensed persons) who cannot meet these requirements will be unable to enter any race meetings unless they have a valid medical exemption.
- It is reminded that RWWA’s Local Rule Vaccination also requires all participants to be double dose vaccinated against COVID-19.
Masks
- Mask wearing is required at all times for people aged eight years and above in indoor areas at racecourses and at all times in the mounting yard.
Mandatory check-in
- All persons entering a WA racetrack, must check in using the SafeWA app, ServiceWA app or a manual contact register.
COVID-19 testing
As always, we encourage everyone to keep up to date with the WA Government advice as the situation continues to change and evolve at www.wa.gov.au.
