War Chant Filly Tops Perth Magic Millions
Yarradale Stud sire War Chant topped day one of the 2020 Magic Millions Perth yearling sale at the Swan Valley on Monday.
His half-sister to multiple stakes winning sprinter and former Perth speed machine, Quilista, fetched $240,000.
Offered by Willow Dale Farm for Korilya Stud owner, Ellie Giles, she is also a half-sister to Red Can Man, a winner of the Listed Fairetha Stakes at Ascot last November.
Quilista won four races for Perth trainer Justin Warwick before being transferred to Melbourne.
The daughter of Scandal Keeper won two Group races in Sydney and a Listed event in Brisbane.
She was purchased by Attunga Stud’s Brian Nutt.
Mornington trainer Matt Laurie secured the second top-priced yearling on day one with Western Breeders Alliance’s Winning Rupert colt from Bitter Twist going for $200,000.
Singapore-based owner Constance Cheng, operating under the Thoroughbred Owners Association and Sports Trust banner, purchased Lot 133, the third highest seller.
Continuing a top draft for Yarradale Stud, the War Chant filly sold for $180,000.
She is a half-sister to Group 2 Hill Stakes winner Lamasery.
Top Perth trainer Adam Durrant led local buyers with a total spend of $1,016,000 for 15 lots.
Neville Parnham outlayed $637,500 for seven lots and Dan and Ben Pearce $390,000 for four lots.
The leading sire by average was Zoustar, followed by War Chant, Nicconi, Blackfriars and Magnus.
Close to $9 million was traded on 124 lots sold across day one with a record average of $71,302.
The clearance rate was just 73%.
