Westbred Barrier Draws: Floewriter Gets Chance To Go One Better
Pearl Classic runner-up Floewriter will get a golden opportunity to record his second Group 1 win, drawing barrier one for Friday night’s Allwood Stud Farm Westbred Classic (2130m) for the two-year-old colts and geldings.
Floewriter worked to the front and led throughout the Pearl Classic on June 11 but was outmuscled by stablemate The Miki Taker, who breezed throughout, in the home straight.
The Miki Taker led home an Aiden De Campo-trained trifecta in the $100,000 event, with Rock On Top back in third.
This Friday night’s assignment is set to be significantly tougher for The Miki Taker, who has drawn the outside of the front row in barrier nine.
Rock On Top has again drawn the inside of the back row in barrier 10 and looks well placed to record another Group 1 placing.
De Campo is named to drive Rock On Top, while Dylan Egerton-Green and Gary Hall Jnr have been named to continue their association with The Miki Taker and Floewriter respectively.
Hall Jnr has also been named to drive the Justin Prentice-trained pair Tricky Miki and Tomlous Jambo, who have drawn barrier five and 11 respectively.
Tricky Miki made an impressive debut at Pinjarra on June 7, before he was beaten by Paul Edward yesterday at the same track.
Paul Edward has drawn barrier three for Friday’s feature, while Ryan Bell’s consistent performer Whataretheodds was also a winner from the draw in barrier two.
The barrier draw Allwood Stud Farm Westbred Classic (2130m) for the two-year-old fillies has setup an intriguing affair, with well credentialed pacers Wonderful To Fly, Sovrana and Taking The Miki all drawing awkwardly.
Wonderful To Fly rounded out her preparation for the Group 1 event with a stylish win in the Westsired Pace at Gloucester Park last Friday but will have to overcome barrier six this week.
Taking The Miki and Sovrana filled the minor placings behind In The Spotlight in last month’s Diamond Classic (2130m) and have drawn barrier 10 and eight respectively.
The least experienced filly in the field All About Riley drew barrier one, with fellow last start winners Dontbesillychilli and Little Darling in barriers two and three respectively.
The other highlight event on Friday night’s card will be the clash between Shockwave and Mighty Conqueror in the Past Presidents Cup (2130m).
Shockwave, last week’s Winter Cup winner, drew barrier seven, while Mighty Conqueror has drawn alongside him in barrier eight.
Patronus Star, who was second to Mighty Conqueror a fortnight ago, has drawn barrier three and looms as a key player in the race.
Friday night’s nine race card gets underway at 5.22.
