Witten’s Ascot Doll
Trainer Robbie Witten admits Dash Doll has been a pleasant surprise packet and he hopes the mare can keep her unbeaten record in-tact when she makes her first city appearance..
After a top frontrunning victory on debut at Bunbury, the four-year-old followed up with a fighting win at Pinjarra after sitting outside of the leader.
Dash Doll faces a stiffer test in the All Flags Signs And Banners Handicap (1200m) at Ascot on Wednesday, but Witten is optimistic she can rise to the task.
“She hasn’t done much wrong at the moment, has she?” Witten said.
“I always thought she had the ability to win a race, but two in a row has surprised me.
“She is pretty laid back like her mum (Princess Neillena), but the blinkers have switched her on.
“She faces a tougher race, but on what she has done she has to take in some confidence.
“I think it’s a good race for her and I guess we will find out a bit more about her.”
Jockey Chris Parnham maintains his association with Dash Doll. In a field of 12 starters, she jumps from barrier nine.
“I will leave it up to Chris, but she doesn’t have to lead,” Witten said.
“She is a quick mare who can also muster speed.
“She can sit off them if she has to.”
Despite showing early promise, Witten says he will maintain a patient approach with Dash Doll.
“I will take it one step at a time,” Witten said.
“I haven’t made any decision past Wednesday.
“I’m mindful she’s had two pretty tough runs.
“I don’t want to empty her out.”
With just a small team of horses, Witten is getting a buzz out of Dash Doll’s progression.
“It makes it easier getting out of the bed in the mornings,” Witten said.
“It’s nice to have a promising horse to look after.
“We’ve had good horses before, but it’s finding the replacements when they come to the end.”
Dash Doll has firmed to $3.70 favouritism after opening at $4.20.
Miss Ivy League has eased from $3.10 to $3.90.
