Former Perth Sprinter On Trial For Brisbane Carnival
Co-trainer David Eustace is eyeing an interstate trip for former Perth galloper Bam’s On Fire after her fighting victory in the Le Pines Funeral Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield last Saturday.
Taken to the inside approaching the home turn by jockey Nikita Beriman, Bam’s On Fire surged to the front passing the 200m and defeated favourite Propelle by a half-head.
“It was a great result,” said Eustace, who prepares the daughter of Universal Ruler in combination with Ciaron Maher.
“She was arguably on the wrong part of the track which makes her win all the more meritorious.
“She will go into an 1100 metre filly’s race at Caulfield in a fortnight. It looks an ideal race for her.
“If she measures up we will consider stepping her up to stakes company and take her to Brisbane.
“I think she can go to the next level, but we will make an assessment after her Caulfield run.”
Bam’s On Fire showed a ton of promise under former trainer Mark Forder, but couldn’t quite shed her maiden tag with three placings from her opening five starts as a two-year-old.
Her best finishing result came in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) at Ascot when she ran third to Agent Pippa, storming home from last after a slow start from the gates.
Bam’s On Fire grabbed that elusive maiden win when first-up this preparation at Benalla after she skipped clear to score by 5 ¼ lengths.
It was the three-year-old’s second race for her new stable before going back to back and adding a city win at Caulfield on the weekend.
Eustace believes Bam’s On Fire is about to live up to her potential.
“We have always known she can gallop,” Eustace said.
“She still is a bit flighty and a touch erratic.
“I would like to see her relax a bit more in her races.
“But she is learning all the time.
“I hope she can go on with it.
“I think she can.”
