GASCOYNE CRICKET CLUB AWARDED COMMUNITY TAB SPORTS GRANT
30 July, 2018
Community TAB of Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) has awarded Gascoyne Cricket Club a $2000 sports grant.
Gascoyne Cricket Club was one of two groups to receive a grant this month, selected from over 200 sporting clubs from around WA who applied for a grant from Community TAB.
Gascoyne Cricket Club Vice President Max March said the grant means the world to the club, which will go towards updating equipment and uniforms.
“Instead of worrying how balls and equipment will be purchased we can focus more on what we can do for our players and cricket in the wider community,” Mr March said.
“The past couple of year’s sponsorship for cricket has been increasingly difficult to come by and the Gascoyne Cricket Club are into youth development with many of the boys still at school so they can’t afford match fees.
“One cricket ball costs $60 per game equating to over $600 per year and our equipment and protective gear is fairly old and without this grant we would not be able to update.”
Mr March added that the senior members of Gascoyne Cricket Club all are heavily involved in junior cricket development by coaching, running juniors and mentoring younger players.
“We are a multicultural club with Indigenous children and boys from Indian and Croatian heritage, and our cricket is played in Carnarvon on a Monday, Friday and Saturday covering players from five years old to 50 years old in the summer,” he said.
RWWA CEO Richard Burt said the organisation recognises the importance of grass roots sport throughout WA. “We understand that it takes time and resources to keep a club running within the community, so we are excited to be giving the opportunity to help relieve this burden on clubs,” Mr Burt said.”
“RWWA has been supporting the WA sport and recreation industry for many years through providing over $30 million of TAB turnover over 10 years to the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) and more recently through Community TAB sponsoring the WA Football League and WA Integrated Football Program.
Community TAB has been giving back to the WA community since 2014 through major partnerships, state-wide fundraising programs and sponsorship of prestigious events.
Community TAB will provide at least one grant each month to a sporting club to further their contribution to the sport and recreation industry in WA.
Once a club applies for a grant, the application will stay within the pool until the grant is awarded.
Sporting clubs can apply for a grant at communitytab.com.au. Terms and Conditions apply.
