Gun Sprinter Set For Return After Top Trial
Top mare Misty Metal warmed up for a series of Belmont feature sprints with a strong barrier trial win at Lark Hill on Monday.
The daughter of Oratorio, trained by Todd and Rob Harvey, came of age last preparation when she claimed a hat trick of Listed victories.
In a brilliant Ascot carnival the speedster won the Jungle Mist Classic (1200m), the Summer Scorcher (1000m) and the Miss Andretti Stakes.
The only occasion she missed a top three finish was at her previous start in the Scenic Blast Stakes (1200m) when seventh.
Misty Metal ran the fastest heat time in her trial over 950m, clocking 56.80 sec when edging out The Nicconian in a tight affair.
Todd Harvey said Misty Metal was on track to target feature sprints at Belmont Park.
“We’re really pleased and she is on target for her return,” Harvey (Todd) told The Races WA.
“She is carrying a bit of nick and is still quite a bit burly.
“It was good to see her get there and win the trial.
“She will come on a lot from today’s (Monday) hit out.
“So it was good.
“She’ll kick off in the Beaufine and the Bolton after that.
“And perhaps the New Season Sprint if she isn’t weighted out of it.
“She will have a light prep and come back for the summer.”
The Listed Beaufine Stakes over 1000m, the Listed Bolton Sprint (1200m) and the New Season Sprint (1000m) will be run at Belmont on June 8, June 22 and August 4 respectively.
