Harrison Has Perth Stakes Doubt With Jericho Missile

Logic tells trainer David Harrison that his unbeaten gelding Jericho Missile is at his most vulnerable when he resumes in the Listed Perth Stakes (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Jericho Missile won the Crystal Slipper Stakes (1100m) last December and the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (1200m) in February, but Harrison says he is a risk first-up.

“This run will fit in perfectly for the Karrakatta,” Harrison told Tabradio.

“He’s had six weeks between runs and I haven’t trialled him this time.

“I think there is a couple of lengths up his sleeve.

“Last time he had six weeks between runs and I put a trial in between and he won the Magic Millions race.

“He will benefit from the run, but he will be vulnerable.

“He’s a little bit porky and has 3 ½ kg more than most of them.

“He has the top weight, but in the Karrakatta it will be set weights.

“This one might be the one he is a little bit vulnerable in.

“After that he will be cherry ripe.”

Harrison paid $77,500 for Jericho Missile at the Magic Millions Adelaide yearling sale last year.

It’s proved an astute buy with the gelding netting $204, 875 in prizemoney from his two wins.

Jericho Missile will be ridden by Shaun O’Donnell. He replaces in the suspended William Pike.

Harrison is chasing his second consecutive victory in the Perth Stakes after Chix Pic was successful last year.

The $500,000 Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) will be run at Ascot on April 6.
