Narrogin Little Athletics Club awarded Community TAB Sports Grant
22 October, 2018
Narrogin Little Athletics Club was awarded a $4000 sports grant from Community TAB as one of two groups to receive a grant this month, selected from over 200 sporting clubs that applied from around WA.
Community TAB has been awarding at least one grant each month to a local sporting club as part of an ongoing commitment to giving back to the WA community, and to further contribute to the sport and recreation industry in WA.
Narrogin Little Athletics Club President Claire Levesque said the grant means the world to the Little Athletes, families and the wider community.
“This grant will go towards replacing our 20-plus year old leaky shipping container that stores all of our equipment in,” Ms Levesque said.
“Instead of the club worrying about damage to equipment due to the weather, we can now focus more on providing development, training and running courses to our Little Athletes and wider community.
“Our club can now also say ‘yes’ more often to requests to use our sporting equipment to schools and other organisation as we know that the equipment is safe for them to use.”
Ms Levesque added that the club promotes inclusivity and is a multicultural club which is affiliated with the Western Australian Little Athletics.
“We have athletes from the age six to 17 that travel from across from 14 surrounding districts such as Lake Grace, Pinjarra, Katanning and many places in between,” she added.
“This sport is unique in that winning is not what we are all about. It’s about having fun, making friends and getting all the family involved in a healthy style of living, putting the emphasis on participation.
“Little Athletics has the ability to allow families to do a sport together which is why our motto is ‘Family, Fun and Fitness’.”
CEO Richard Burt from Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA), which funds the initiative through Community TAB, said RWWA recognises the importance of grass roots sport throughout WA.
“We understand that it takes time and resources to keep a club such as Narrogin Little Athletics running so we are pleased to be giving the opportunity to help relieve this burden on the club, and that the grant also benefits many other local communities as a result,” Mr Burt said.
“RWWA has been supporting the WA sport and recreation industry for many years, providing millions of dollars over 10 years to the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) and, more recently, through Community TAB sponsoring the WA Football League and WA Integrated Football Program.”
Community TAB has been giving back to the WA community since 2014 through major partnerships, state-wide fundraising programs and sponsorship of prestigious events. Sporting clubs can apply for a grant at communitytab.com.au. Terms and Conditions apply.
