Race Clubs & Community TAB donate over $465K to WA charities
6 July, 2018
Over the last four years, Community TAB of Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) has been partnering with WA race clubs to encourage fundraising for local not-for-profit organisations.
In the current 2017/18 racing season, 32 clubs have partnered with Community TAB to raise funds for 38 different local not-for-profit organisations.
Since 2014 the program has seen the race clubs fundraise over $232,000 and Community TAB has matched these funds bringing the total to over $465,000.
RWWA CEO Richard Burt said the program of matching funds raised by clubs is an initiative that RWWA is very proud of.
“Through the life of this program over 100 different not-for-profit organisations have greatly benefitted from this fundraising opportunity, ensuring their vital service can continue in their local community,” Mr Burt said.
“The positive effects of this program have been extensive, especially for regional WA with 49 of our race clubs based in regional communities, the fundraising has allowed the race clubs to reinforce strong relationships within their communities.
“RWWA recognises race clubs across WA play an important role in their community contributing both economically and socially, and via Community TAB, we thoroughly enjoy working with the race clubs on this rewarding program.”
Almost every one of WA’s 52 race clubs have taken part in the program over the past four years as it offers them the platform to fundraise at a major race day.
WA race clubs are able to nominate an organisation of their choice and Community TAB matches the funds raised to a maximum of $5,000.
Community TAB is an initiative to allow RWWA to give back to the WA community through various initiatives and industries.
Not-for-profit organisations around the State who have benefitted from the program so far include WA Police Legacy, Variety WA, various local Volunteer Bushfire Brigades and St John Ambulance sub centres, Give Me 5 For Kids, Lifeline WA, local Men’s Shed and Lions Clubs, Riding for the Disabled centres, Wheatbelt Womens Health Hub and local Surf Lifesaving Clubs.
Community TAB plans to continue the program throughout the rest of 2018.
