War Saint Has Shots To Fire
War Saint has made it two wins from the first three starts of his racing career, recording a comfortable win in the TABtouch-Better Your Bet Plate (1100m) at Ascot this afternoon.
The Neville Parnham-trained colt led all the way in the $24,500 event and scored by 1 3/4 lengths to Brave Contender and Busy One.
War Saint won on debut on Good Friday, but was significantly unlucky at his most recent start on May 4 when he race three-wide and finished fifth to Specialism.
There were no such issues for War Saint today, after he flew out of the gates and led with ease.
Jockey Steven Parnham said War Saint had a promising three-year-old career in front of him.
“It was a really nice two-year-old win,” he told The Races WA.
“He dominated up front and kept going so it was really pleasing.
“I think he’ll make Saturday grade for sure.
“He does a little bit wrong at the moment, he’s still aggressive so with a bit of time off he will settle down.”
Meanwhile, Amelie Argot made it four wins from her first seven starts, taking out the Iron Jack Handicap (1000m).
Jockey Kate Witten settled the Robert and Todd Harvey-trained mare outside race leader Triple Event throughout the sprint race and was perfectly placed coming to the home turn.
Amelie Argot lifted over the last 100m and powered away from her rivals to score by 3/4 length.
“She’s coming off a pretty long layoff, so it was a pretty good performance,” he said.
“She’s really talented.
“I think she can go up towards Saturday grade.”
Meanwhile, in-form apprentice jockey Brodie Kirby has kept his stellar run going, riding a treble on this afternoon’s card.
Kirby scored above Don’s Legacy in the Amelia Park Lamb Handicap (1100m), Stoicism in the Seacorp Handicap (1400m) and Gates Of Babylon in the Schweppes Handicap (1200m).
