Harness stewards’ inquiry – trainer Kevin Egerton-Green (Peter Romeo)
Racing and Wagering Western Australia stewards have been advised by the Chem Centre in Perth that metformin has been detected in the sample taken from Peter Romeo (trained by Kevin Egerton-Green) following it competing in and finishing 3rd in Race 5 at Gloucester Park on 13 May 2022.
These findings have been verified by Racing Analytical Services Ltd (Vic).
Accordingly, the stewards will inquire into these reports on a date to be determined.
Metformin is classified as an oral anti-hyperglycaemic medication, indicated for use in the management of diabetes in humans.
In view of the circumstances of this matter and nature of the substance detected, acting under the provisions of Harness Rule of Racing 183 (d) stewards have directed that Mr Egerton-Green’s licence to train be suspended forthwith pending the outcome of the stewards inquiry to the extent that he is not permitted to nominate or present any horses to race.
