Harness Stewards Inquiry – Trainer Peter Anderson
Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s (RWWA) Stewards have concluded an inquiry which commenced on 12 March 2020 concerning two incidents involving trainer Mr Peter Anderson and driver Miss Deni Roberts, which was alleged to have occurred at the Byford training track and at Mr Anderson’s registered stables on 11 February 2020.
Mr Anderson was found guilty on 28 May 2020 of the following charges.
Charges
Charge 1. – Misconduct
Particulars:
The particulars of the charge were that licenced trainer/driver Mr Anderson did misconduct himself on 11 February 2020 at the Byford training track when he deliberately and intentionally allowed STAR OF THE CLASS to run up the track making contact with the sulky shaft of SHE SAID DIAMNDS, driven by Miss Roberts.
Charge 2: Assault
Particulars:
The particulars of the charge were that licenced trainer/driver Mr Anderson did assault Miss Roberts on 11 February 2020 at his registered stables in Byford when he placed his hand on the chest area of Miss Roberts and applied force to move her away.
Submissions on penalty were heard on 2 June 2020 with Stewards determining to impose the penalties as indicated.
Charge 1 – $500 fine
Charge 2 – 12 months disqualification
In determining penalty Stewards took into account several factors, including:
- Mr Anderson’s long history of involvement in harness racing.
- That the standards of behaviour indicated by the charges were not in keeping with that expected of licenced persons.
- The need to send a clear message that such conduct would not be tolerated.
- The aggravating factors including that Mr Anderson was in a position of authority or trust as Miss Roberts’ employer.
- That Miss Roberts was not physically injured in the incidents.
