Stewards’ Inquiry – Thoroughbreds
23 February, 2009
Thoroughbred
RWWA Stewards today discussed the future racing plans of the four year old mare TRANSACTION with Trainer Mr V. Brockman.
TRANSACTION suffered significant heat stress after finishing in 3rd place in Race 8 the Kwinana Lodge Handicap (1200m) run at Ascot on Saturday, 21 February 2009. The mare had been treated by oncourse Official Veterinarians and had recovered well, however Stewards had serious concerns as this was the second occasion that TRANSACTION had suffered significant symptoms of heat stress.
Trainer Mr Brockman advised that the mare had shown no further signs of stress on return to the stables. He did advise that TRANSACTION would now be sent for an immediate six week spell and resume racing in late May 2009 and race through until August/September 2009 after which the mare would be retired to stud. He also advised that if TRANSACTION was to start on a day where the ambient temperature was significantly high the mare would be withdrawn from her racing engagement.
Stewards agreed with this course of action and advised Trainer Mr Brockman that the above protocols would now be entered on the record of TRANSACTION for future monitoring.
