Stewards’ Inquiry – Thoroughbreds
11 May, 2009
Thoroughbred
Stewards today inquired into a report received from Principal Investigator Mr P. O’Reilly in regard to the circumstances related to Jockey Shane Gilchrist not providing a valid urine sample prior to leaving Belmont Park Racecourse after riding DANTE’S BANQUET in Race 7, the Support Your Local TAB Handicap over 1600m run at Belmont on Saturday, 9 May 2009.
Jockey S. Gilchrist pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR.175(p) for refusing to comply with a direction of the Stewards in that after initially providing a urine sample deemed void due to it being of insufficient volume for analysis, he then refused to comply with a direction of an official to remain on course and provide a subsequent valid urine sample.
Jockey Shane Gilchrist consequently had his licence suspended in full for a period of six (6) months effective immediately. Further, Jockey Gilchrist was advised that he is required to provide a urine sample free of any banned substances prior to resuming riding.
