Thoroughbred stewards’ inquiry update – Trainer Mr Brock Lewthwaite
Racing and Wagering Western Australia stewards today resumed the inquiry concerning Mr Lewthwaite in relation to the reports from the Chem Centre in Perth and Racing Analytical Services Ltd (Vic) that testosterone and boldenone had been detected in the sample taken from Star Present following it competing in and winning Race 4 at Ascot on 9 April 2022.
After receiving further documentary evidence, final submissions from counsel for Mr Lewthwaite in support of the plea of not guilty to the charge issued on 8 July 2022 under 240 (2), was put forward. The particulars of the charge were;
“That Mr Brock Lewthwaite was the licensed trainer of Star Present when it was brought to race at Ascot on 9 April 2022, where it raced in Race 4, with the prohibited substances testosterone and boldenone, being Prohibited List A substances, being detected in the sample taken from that mare.”
In view of the extent and volume of evidence that had been adduced over numerous past sittings, the stewards reserved their decision with respect to the charge so that all aspects could be carefully considered, with the matter adjourned pending the outcome of those considerations.
