Thoroughbred Stewards Investigation – Trainer Mr Neil Biggs
Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s (RWWA) Stewards have been undertaking an investigation concerning the welfare of horses under the care and control of thoroughbred trainer Mr. Neil Biggs in Leonora. The investigation has involved a number of visits to his training premises by the RWWA investigators and veterinarian.
Through the course of these investigations eight horses were surrendered to RWWA by Mr. Biggs with them being conveyed to RWWA’s welfare facility in North Dandalup. These horses either were or are now deregistered from racing.
The surrender of the horses was undertaken in accordance with RWWA’s commitment to welfare, so as to ensure their immediate welfare whilst investigations continued. This action took into consideration the remote location at which the horses were housed and the absence of other alternative options to assure their welfare.
Upon completion of the on-going investigation a stewards inquiry will be conducted in relation to these matters.
