Greyhound Stewards Inquiry – Trainer Mr Kyle Goodwin
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) Stewards concluded an inquiry today into the conduct of Victorian Trainer Mr Kyle Goodwin during the race meeting at Greyhounds WA Cannington on 22 May 2021.
Mr Goodwin had previously pleaded guilty to a charge under GAR 86 (o), with the particulars being that he, as a registered person with Greyhound Racing Victoria, did swear and acted in an intimidatory manner in the vicinity of the kennels at Greyhounds WA Cannington on 22 May 2021 which, in the opinion of the Stewards, constituted misconduct.
Mr Goodwin had pleaded not guilty to a further charge under GAR 86 (d) with the particulars being that on 22 May 2021, Mr Goodwin made misleading statements during an investigation in relation to the person that had made physical contact with RWWA Steward, Mr M Pascoe.
After hearing further evidence from Mr Goodwin, Stewards had adjourned to determine the charge under GAR 86 (d). After considering the matter, Mr Goodwin was found guilty as charged.
The inquiry resumed on 3 August 2021 to consider the question of penalty to both charges. After deliberation, the following penalties were issued:
Charge 1 – GAR 86 (o) – $1000 fine
Charge 2 – GAR 86 (d) – 18 month disqualification
In considering penalty, amongst other things, Stewards took the following into account:
- Mr Goodwin’s personal circumstances
- The circumstances surrounding the commission of both offences
- Mr Goodwin’s unblemished record
- The range of penalties commonly imposed for similar offences in Western Australia and Victoria
- The seriousness of Charge 2.
