Top Chasers Announced as 2023 Greyhound of the Year Contenders

Crumble Monelli, Elite Machine and Saige Tenniele have been announced as the greyhounds in the running for the 2023 Greyhound of the Year title.
Crumble Monelli raced 40 times in 2023 for 19 wins and ten placings, earning a total of $552,258 in prize money. In a highly successful year, Crumble Monelli secured wins in the Group 2 Birthday Cup, Puppy Classic, Canning Trophy, Mandurah Derby at Northam, Group 2 WA Derby and the first ever running of The Sandgroper.
Crumble Monelli also made another six feature finals for the year including the Group 1 Brisbane Cup and set the new track record over 400m at Mandurah.
Elite Machine secured an impressive 14 wins and five placings from his 27 runs in 2023, earning a total of $1,026,579 in stakes. His top wins include the Group 1 Perth Cup, Lew Dorsa Memorial Trophy and the Group 1 Brisbane Cup.
Elite Machine also placed in The Sandgroper and was selected to compete in the invitation-only Group 1 Topgun at The Meadows.
Saige Tenniele raced 37 times in 2023 for 11 wins and six placings, earning a total of $153,195 in stakes. Saige Tenniele’s most notable wins include the WA Sprint Championship and Group 1 National Sprint Championship at The Meadows.
Acknowledgment is also be given to Couch Surfer, Electrified and King Tommy who were also under consideration until the final contender list was produced.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia Chief Racing Officer David Hunter said the three chasers represent the best of the best of WA’s greyhound talent.
“The three finalists all had tremendous success on the track in 2023 and I look forward to seeing who will take home the top honour,” David said.
The winner will be announced at the 2023 Greyhound of the Year Awards on Sunday, 4 February 2024 at Fraser’s Restaurant.
