Local Trainer James Jeffries has acquired former east coast stayer Rockstar Patriot who will make his WA debut in the Listed Greyhounds WA Christmas Gift over 715 metres at Cannington on Saturday night.
The son of Fernando Bale has had 51 starts for 8 wins and a further 25 placings with more than $78,000 in career earnings.
Jeffries is delighted with the way his new chaser has settled in at his kennels and is looking forward to seeing how he measures up in Saturday night’s feature event.
“Ideally I would have liked him to have a race start at Cannington before going into a race like this but I ran out of time and he is seasoned enough to get straight into it.” Jeffries said.
“He trialled well over the 520 metres and his work leading into this has been very good.”
“He is a very versatile and reliable chaser and from box number 2 he should be able to take a decent trail just behind the speed.” Jeffries added.
Jeffries is an astute judge when it comes to reading the form for races and he expects Moment To Jive and Reidy’s Runner to be the dogs to beat.
“This race maps to have plenty of dogs up front pouring the pressure on which I think can make the race for Moment To Jive, Reidy’s Runner and Rockstar Patriot who are likely to be chiming in late.” Jeffries said.
“Regardless of how he goes on Saturday I am stoked to have a greyhound of his calibre join my team and I am sure he is set for a bright future here in WA.” Jeffries concluded.
Other runners on the night for Jeffries include Sunset Mouse, Quara’s Xavier and Winlock Banking.
“Sunset Mouse resumes from a few months off but he has a great winning strike rate and he should run well fresh.” Jeffries said.
“Quara’s Xavier has drawn awkwardly out in box seven but if he can get some clear running he can run the time to be right in the finish.” Jeffries added.
“Winlock Banking is back up in class to a Free To All but he is always an each way chance and when he drops in grade he will be worth following.” Jeffries summized.
On Friday night Jeffries has up and comer Quara’s Emma engaged in a heat of the Express Stakes at Mandurah.
“Quara’s Emma is one of the most exciting dogs in my kennel. She has won 10 of her 19 starts and has superb early pace.” Jeffries commented.
“She runs into Slingshot Gypsy and Cosmic Gas who are both very capable sprinters but if she can begin up to her best they will have to be good to beat her.” Jeffries concluded.
