Consistent chaser Moment To Jive has put herself in prime position to go one better in this year’s WA Distance Championship Final, following her heat win at Cannington last night.
Moment To Jive won last year’s heat of the WA Distance Championship, before going on to run second to Ramifications in the Final a week later.
Quick Jagger was sent out a $1.30 TABtouch favourite last night, but his chances of winning took a significant dive when he was the last out of the boxes.
The state’s star stayer was able to muster enough speed to find the front going out of the home straight the first time, while Chezzy Allen and Moment To Jive were also close to the speed.
The slow start ultimately cost Quick Jagger though as Moment To Jive was able to come along the inside and go on to win by a metre from Chezzy Allen.
Prior to last night’s win, Moment To Jive went 10 starts between wins with her last victory coming in a heat of the Galaxy on April 14.
Given there were only eight dogs in last night’s heat, the same field will line up in next week’s Final.
Winning trainer Sarah Appleton said it was a big relief to have Moment To Jive back in winning form following a tough trip to the east coast for the Sandown Cup in May.
“It’s been a long time coming since the trip to Melbourne,” she said.
“It was a huge relief to see her get through last night and in good form.”
Appleton also said Moment To Jive would be better placed to win the WA Final this year, and qualify for the National Final at Sandown on August 24.
“I think so, she has a lot more staying experience a year further down the track,” he said.
“Hopefully she can jump well next week…we want to win and get to the final.”
Meanwhile, Appleton is hopeful consistent chaser Infrared Moment can advanced to the Sprint Championship Final when he lines up in the second heat on Saturday night.
“He’s super consistent, and he has a lot of mid race pace,” she said.
“He might not be as explosive out of the boxes as some of the other runners, but box one will be the best spot for him.”
Infrared Moment faces a strong field on Saturday night, including Perth Cup winner Trouper Monelli and WA Derby winner West On Augie.
The first of the two WA Sprint Championship heats gets underway at 8.12pm on Saturday.
