Glass Cutter To Carve A Piece Of Cannington History

There’s an element of uncertainty about what to expect at the opening meeting of the new Cannington stadium on Wednesday evening.
Every greyhound that competes will be experiencing the track under race conditions for the first time and for many it’ll be their first look at the track under any circumstances.
There are plenty of unanswered questions: How will the dogs handle the circuit? What’s a good time? Will Mandurah and Northam form translate?
Enzo Crudeli can’t be too sure how his chaser Glass Cutter will perform but the veteran trainer will claim a slice of greyhound racing history if he can win the very first race held on the track, the ‘Inaugural’ Maiden (520m).
Glass Cutter hasn’t laid a paw on the Cannington circuit yet but for what it’s worth comes into the race in the best form of any of the eight greyhounds.
In his last two starts the Bekim Bale-Whispering Ling chaser was a runner-up in a heat of the Summer Maiden Classic and then clocked a decent 27.87 over the 490m when fourth behind Marydoll in the final.
Glass Cutter’s prospects were given a boost when he drew the pole.
“He’s drawn ideally in the one because he’s a mad railer,” Crudeli said of Glass Cutter.
“It’s hard to say how he’ll handle the track but it shouldn’t worry him because he should just go straight to the fence.
“That’s the plan anyway, like all the other dogs he’ll have to learn as he goes.
“I think he’s got a good chance and it’d be nice to win the first race on the track but we’ll just have to see what happens.”
Wednesday’s meeting will also host six heats of the Puppy Classic.
In heat one, Krugerand, a winner of nine of 13 starts looks a standout from an inside alley.
Gr 3 Young Stars winner Channing makes his return to racing in heat two following a spell that extends back to January.
In heat four Ramifications is the dog to beat.
The Chris Halse-prepared chaser has delivered a top two finish in his past six starts, including four wins.
Topology only has the one victory to his name but is a good chance to add to that tally from the pole in heat six.
