Leading trainer Chris Halse heads into this Friday night’s Mandurah Cup (490m) in a strong position with four runners in the Group 3 feature.
The Mandurah Cup, dubbed as ‘Mandurah’s biggest race’, has been an institution at the Peel circuit since the track opened in 1979.
The most successful trainer in the history of the Mandurah Cup is Linda Britton, who has dominated the race since the mid-90’s, claiming a record eight victories, commencing with the win of Boy’s Best in 1995 through to Te Amo in 2013.
As Britton’s right hand man over that period Chris Halse had a big hand in those victories.
Now that he’s running the kennel in his own right Hasle has a great opportunity to etch his name onto the honour roll.
Halse will provide half the field in this year’s edition with heat winners Pepper Fire, Who’s Got Blue, Who’s Driving as well as Ramifications.
Recent SA Oaks winner Pepper Fire and Ramifications rate as the best of Hasle’s chances but the Nambeelup mentor is taking nothing for granted against some tough opposition which includes the classy Monaro Monelli from an inside draw and veteran topliner Fun Boss.
“Pepper Fire isn’t the strongest going around so hopefully she can get off to a flyer like she did last week.
“Ramifications will need an ounce of luck early but with a clear run he’ll be charging home late.”
There will be free entry and free kids activities at Tabtouch Park Mandurah for the Mandurah Cup meeting.
Gates open at 6m, first race at 6.52pm
