Middle Distance Stars set to shine!
Three heats of the Paradise Street Trophy over 600 metres highlight a strong 12 race program at Cannington this evening.
The series pays tribute to the champion WA stayer who won the 1998 National Distance Championship Final at Cannington.
The three heats have drawn together a quality gathering of sprinters stepping up to 600 metres, regular 600 metre combatants and some of the 715 metre dogs stepping back in trip.
In the first heat last week’s Listed Winter Cup winner Jackson County steps back up to 600 metres, a trip where he has had 9 tries for 3 wins and 4 placings including a slick 34.62 seconds personal best time.
Talented stayer We The People returns to WA chasing after a successful campaign in Victoria and she has won 3 of her 8 tries over 600 metres.
In box one Barefoot Tycoon is aiming up at a winning hat trick after impressive wins over 600 metres and 715 metres over the last fortnight.
Outside of this trio Lashes Monelli and Van Buren are likely to be finishing with zest while Chimera Monelli and Rostered Off are both very capable types when races are run to suit – quite simply it is a deep affair.
In the second heat we see the middle distance debut of the very talented Stout Monelli. The David Hobby trained speedster has had 27 starts for 14 wins and 9 placings and has emerged as one of the most exciting chasers in WA.
Box eight can be a tough draw to overcome but if the son of Barcia Bale can position across in to a forward slot early he is likely to be hooning along mid race.
In box seven Rapido Lass is generally a swift beginner and she has recorded some slick wins over the 600 metre trip in recent times.
Redcap Monelli has finished on the podium in 11 of his 15 tries over this distance, West On Mia from the cherry is drawn to sit on speed and give cheek while Historic Time and All Zipped Up are more than capable of finishing in the finish at odds.
The third heat sees the versatile duo of Star Book and Sir Monty stepping up to 600 metres to take on some in-form types including Beck’s Monelli, Myrtle Monelli, Wicked Rhythm, Hi Sky and Wynburn Burner.
The recurring theme through all three heats is the depth of the fields and we are in for a treat with all three heats shaping as excellent encounters.
My better two bets on the program come up in races 7 and 8.
In race 7 I am sticking with Sunset Toxic who has won all 5 of his starts from box 2 while Veyron Star from box two looks the goods in race eight. Veyron Star ran a top third in the Listed Winter Cup final behind Jackson County last week and a similar performance will see her very hard to beat tonight.
