Rippin’ Memphis out of the Perth Cup
The pre-post favourite for tonight’s Group 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup Rippin’ Memphis has been scratched this morning leaving the chase for Group 1 glory wide open.
The Shayne William’s trained bitch has a split webbing and has been withdrawn from the feature leaving the door open for kennelmate Rippin’ Purton to come in to the Group 1 feature from box one.
Williams was understandably disappointed with having to scratch his promising bitch.
“She has been racing so well and after drawing perfectly it looked a wonderful chance for her but after a run up the straight on Thursday she split her webbing and I won’t take any risks with her.” Williams said.
It is not all doom and gloom for William’s as he has Rippin’ Purton coming in to the field to get a start who was the first reserve.
“He has not been racing up to the level of Memphis but at least I still have a runner and I just have to hope he runs a big race.” Williams said.
The scratching has certainly changed the betting landscape with the fastest qualifier Canya Cruise now the $2.75 fixed odds favourite with TABtouch in front of Tiggerlong Tonk at $3.40, Withers Monelli at $7.50, Wise Thunder at $9, Star Book $11, Sir Monty $13, Rippin’ Purton at $13 and Rapido Lass at $21.
Canya Cruise is now a strong hope of finding the front and if he can reproduce his heat run is likely to take some running down. Tiggerlong Tonk must be respected and Sir Monty should get a lovely run over with Canya Cruise and can play a part at odds.
In the Group 1 Sky Racing Galaxy Zack Monelli was the clear cut fastest qualifier and he is a warm fixed odds favourite at $1.75 in front of Sunset Bourbski at $4 Jayville Slick at $6.50 and Barefoot Tycoon is a $9 chance.
Star sandgroper Tommy Shelby will be appearing after race 4 and will be making a very special presentation.
A huge night of chasing is in store – be sure to get trackside to soak up the Group 1 feels.
