The inaugural running of the $500,000 Sandgroper looks destined to attract Australia’s best greyhound, with Wow She’s Fast set to head west for the greyhound event of The Western Trilogy.
The Jackie Greenough-trained chaser looks poised to fill Sportsbet’s Sandgroper slot, having won the first two editions of Melbourne’s slot race The Phoenix for them in 2021 and 2022.
Speaking to TABradio’s Greyhound Gossip, Greenough’s husband Kel said it was his preferred option to travel the bitch west instead of tackling the Golden Easter Egg.
“We have certainly been approached and we are contemplating that,” he said.
“We have to make a decision very shortly because we don’t want to muck around.
“I prefer to race in Perth than New South Wales.”
Wow She’s Fast took her earnings to more than $2.3 million with a breathtaking win in Saturday’s Group 1 Temlee (525m) at The Meadows.
She looks well placed to push past the $3 million mark in the coming months, with the Australian Cup and Sandgroper on the agenda.
As well as tackling the Sandgroper, Greenough said he hoped to bring Wow She’s Fast over for the Perth Cup a month earlier.
“The Perth Cup is high on the agenda in my mind,” he said.
“I’ll have to run it through the owners, but they generally say do what you like.
“I always like coming across to Perth.”
Wow She’s Fast is the $4 TABtouch favourite for The Sandgroper and the $5 favourite for the Perth Cup.
