Tomorrow night sees the running of The Trots WA Oaks at Gloucester Park. Benesari Lane, above, won last year’s edition of the feature. Get The Last Word on each of the 10 races below.
RACE 1 – VALE BETH RICHARDSON PACE
- (LUHRSY): “
- Aldo Cortopassi (ROLLINDOWNTHERIVER): “Going well. Needs a good trip.”
- Ryan Bell (SWAGGER MAN): “Will attempt to lead. Has come on since the first-up run extremely well. Great each-way chance even if he doesn’t lead.”
- Corey Rogers (NORTHERN GAZE): “Tricky draw and tough field but I think he’s ready to run a good race now he’s nearing peak fitness. Looking to land a forward position and see if he can stick it out strongly.”
- Chris Voak (LINEBACKER): “Novelty hope. Will look for a forward position.”
- Gary Hall Snr (HIGH PRICE): “I like him a lot if he gets away. We will work forward and I wouldn’t mind leading.”
- Greg Bond (STRENGTH AND HONOUR): “Biggest test to date but can play a part.”
- Kim Prentice (SOHO DOWN JONES): “Draw hurts him. He’s going super well. Will have to go back and duck and weave.”
- (HOPPYS WAY): “
- Chris Lewis (JACKPOT JOE): “I think he’s improved each run. I was happy the other day.”
- Gary Hall Snr (SMART WATCH): “He’s a good horse. Probably a little bit inexperienced. He can come from behind and not just in front. He might go to the breeze.”
- Peter Tilbrook (SEVEN NO TRUMPS): “Continued his solid form last week. He’s looking super fit and will run well. Can mix his form from back in the field.”
RACE 2 – YOU TOO MATE PACE
- (THE KRAKEN): “
- (PRADASON): “
- Murray Lindau (TALKS UP A STORM): “Should be prominent from the more favourable draw.”
- Ross Olivieri (CARRERA MACH): “He’s working terrific at home but not getting the luck in his races. He might jag a place depending on the luck he gets.”
- Gary Hall Snr (MASTER PUBLISHER): “Keeps drawing where he can’t lead.”
- Michael Young (DOC HOLLIDAY): “Another middle draw makes it tough. We will be thereabouts.”
- Jocelyn Young (TELLMETOATTACK): “First-up. Bad draw. Looks tough.”
- Justin Prentice (MANNING): “Too hard from the draw this week.”
- (ROCK ME OVER): “
- Michael Brennan (WHATABRO): “Any luck at all and he will be hard to beat.”
- Brett Smith (MCARDLES GEM): “Found a pretty handy field. Needs to find weaker company.”
- Ross Olivieri (POWER AND GRACE): “Going very well. He’s been drawing badly except for one race in every six or eight weeks. He ran a very good race last start.”
RACE 3 – HARNESS THE DREAM COMING SOON IN 2023 PACE
- Ray Williams (STAMFORD): “I’ve got an opinion of him. He’s a tough horse. The Mustang won easy last week which will make it hard. We can’t complain about the draw. He’s working well. If he’s going to forward like I think he will, he has to be very competitive.”
- Chris Lewis (MIRRAGON): “I think he went unders last week. Hopefully he will bounce back. We have options.”
- Bob Mellsop (OUR STAR WATCH): “Needs luck but is going well.”
- Michael Young (THE MUSTANG): “Not sure how we play it early. Doesn’t have to lead to win but it wouldn’t shock me to see him cross. Will leave it to Junior.”
- Ryan Bell (THE CODE BREAKER): “Awkward draw. Will end up a fair way back but if they run silly sectionals over this distance he will be running on.”
- Michael Brennan (WITHOUTTHETUH): “Drew the wrong side of The Mustang.”
- (AWAITINGINSTRUCTIONS): “
- (REGAL CHEVAL): “
- Kyle Harper (CORDERO): “Draw hurts.”
- Jocelyn Young (ATHABASCAN): “Nice draw in this field. Let’s hope he behaves.”
- (GEE SMITH): “
- Gary Hall Snr (EUPHORIA): “Bad barrier draw. Always a place chance.”
RACE 4 – DOT WILLIAMS PACE
- Gary Hall Snr (JUMPINGJACKMAC): “Gets his chance. He will lead I’d say. I reckon he will be hard to beat. If Magnificent Storm puts too much pressure on Gambit will come into it. When he ran second he was outstanding. Last week didn’t suit. He’s a good chance.”
- Kristy Elson (JASPERVELLABEACH): “Good draw to get a soft run and see how we fare.”
- Cody Wallrodt (BABYFACE ADDA): “Happy with his body of work. Just be looking to hit the line strong first-up.”
- (TO FAST TO SERIOUS): “
- Gary Hall Snr (WILL I ROCKNROLL): “Too hard. He’s racing well.”
- (TYLER BRETT): “
- Gary Hall Snr (DIEGO): “Drawn wide but he can’t be written off.”
- Nathan Turvey (MIRACLE MOOSE): “Will need luck.”
- Ray Williams (MAGNIFICENT STORM): “His work has been good. The plan was always to run this week if he pulled up well. We need to get his fitness up this week. I can’t fault his work. He doesn’t need to go forward and he can grab a spot.”
- Gary Hall Snr (GAMBIT): “He can be a danger if there’s pressure on.”
- Chris Lewis (HAMPTON BANNER): “He’s missed a few weeks of racing. We will see where he is at. He comes up against a good field.”
RACE 5 – THE TROTS WA OAKS
- Ross Olivieri (TAKING THE MIKI): “She has got good gate speed and she’s tough. We will be trying to lead all the way.”
- Chris Lewis (LITTLE DARLING): “She’s going really nicely. I think she will see the journey out and I couldn’t be happier with her form.”
- Sarah Wall (DONTBESILLYCHILLI): “Regardless of the result, it’s great to make it to the Oaks field. Very happy with her.”
- (CHAMPAGNE EVERYONE): “
- Shane Young (WONDERFUL TO FLY): “Drawn fairly. Will have to weigh it up at the start.”
- Jocelyn Young (WALL STREET GIRL): “Talented enough with the right racing luck.”
- Michael Brennan (MISS SASSY): “Will eat up the trip. With a bunch of luck from the draw she can run top three.”
- Gary Hall Snr (ACHARNE GIRL): “Should’ve won last week. She was a good thing beaten I think. From the draw she will need to be on her game.”
- (SOVRANA): “
- Greg Bond (IN THE SPOTLIGHT): “Well and truly in this with racing luck.”
- (CATCH THE RED EYE): “
- Michael Young (IM THEMIGHTYLUCY): “Not actually a terrible draw for her. Should slot in close enough and be charging home late.”

RACE 6 – $1 MILLION NULLARBOR SLOT RACE IN APRIL 2023 PACE
- Aiden De Campo (DOMINUS FACTUM): “Come on well from the first-up run. Will lead this week and be hard to catch.”
- Sarah Wall (ALTA RHETT): “Good field. Hopefully the shortcuts are favourable.”
- Micheal Ferguson (ROCKABALL): “Drawn to get a good trip. Will be dangerous late.”
- Ray Williams (EZANA): “He’s worked well this week and last week wasn’t run to suit. It was unfortunate the way it worked.”
- Kat Warwick (MACHNIFICENT): “First-up in a while. Looking for a strong finish.”
- Ross Olivieri (BOOM TIME): “He’s been racing super well if you go right back through his form. Luck in running will play a part.”
- Greg Bond (IDEAL AGENT): “Can atone for first-up defeat.”
- Sue Wiscombe (ELDAYTONA): “Due to the race he was meant to be in being deleted, he’s up in grade and drawn badly. I’m happy with the horse.”
- Greg Bond (GLENLEDI CHIEF): “Going great. Probably wait for when he draws a marble.”
RACE 7 – WESTERNTRILOGY.COM.AU PACE
- Kat Warwick (RASCAL): “Loves to run along in front and drew the barrier to give him a good chance to fight out the finish.”
- Michael Young (KIMBLE): “Was known in Victoria for being one of the fastest beginners. Another one I’ll leave to Junior to assess off the gate.”
- Chris Voak (MAJOR MUCHA): “Wait until he draws to lead.”
- Jocelyn Young (PONTEVIVO): “Going well. Tricky spot but will run a good race.”
- Nathan Turvey (COOL WATER PADDY): “Will need luck too.”
- (ILLAWONG MUSTANG): “
- Deb Padberg (DEEORSE): “Likes 2500. Will go well.”
- (ROCKSTAR REBEL): “
- Kat Warwick (REGAL SCRIBE): “Racing really well. The barrier draw is unfortunate.”
- Michael Young (FIREROCKFIREROLL): “Probably should have won last week but didn’t get any luck. Big chance the same happens this week.”
- Greg Bond (AUSSIE SCOOTER): “Even field. Each-way.”
- Michael Brennan (WOODLEA RAGNAR): “Really needs to draw closer to the rail.”
RACE 8 – THE NULLARBOR SLOT APPLICATIONS CLOSE 26 OCTOBER PACE
- Chris Voak (ALL THE BELLS): “Great draw. It gives her a chance to earn.”
- Greg Bond (UNCONDITIONAL): “Can go back-to-back.”
- Hayden Charles (SAMEPLACE SAMETIME): “Hoping for an improved run.”
- Terry Ferguson (CAPTURED DELIGHT): “She’s working her way into a bit of form but I’m not super happy with how she’s come up.”
- Chris Lewis (JUST FOR LOVE): “Last couple of runs have been good. She needs a bit of luck in running to be top three.”
- Terry Ferguson (SPORTS PACKAGE): “She put in her best run last Friday night. She’s the pick of mine.”
- Terry Ferguson (BETTOR COPAGOODONE): “She’s going okay.”
- Shane Young (SUING YOU): “Bit disappointing last week. Looking for improvement.”
- Shane Tognolini (BLAZE COOPS): “Not even with stolen money.”
- Michael Young (ALCIPPES DELIGHT): “Will stay on the rail and probably be three back. Place chance from there.”
RACE 9 – THE TROTS WA PACE
- Kyle Harper (LITTLE BITOF FUN): “Each-way.”
- Chris Lewis (ANOTHER SNAG): “I’ll follow what Terry wants to do.”
- (BETTORSTARTDREAMING): “
- (BELLEZZA NERA): “
- Deb Padberg (NAME IN LIGHTS): “Should be running on well.”
- David Young (FLYING MISTER IDEAL): “Whatever he does Friday he will improve on. More hopeful than expecting but you have to start somewhere.”
- Kat Warwick (IDEAL WHITBY): “In great for at the moment. Should be thereabouts in the finish.”
- Aldo Cortopassi (VINTAG BLU): “Very consistent and will be thereabouts again.”
- Craig Saligari (CROCODILE KID): “Will go back and hope for a genuine tempo.”
- Michael George (FASTER THAN DAD): “Couldn’t be happier with him.”
